Two petrol stations robbed, one robber convicted
Esso petrol stations were raided in both Utrecht and Nijkerkveen last weekend. In the latter robbery, two people were injured, including an employee of the station.
At the Esso on the Amersfoortseweg in Nijkerkerveen things went wrong at around 9pm on Saturday night. To the AD, the police speak of an “attempted robbery”, after which the two suspects took off on fatbikes. It is not clear whether weapons were used or whether the two men, aged between 20 and 25, took anything. However, two people did suffer minor injuries.
In Utrecht, three men also targeted an Esso station. The station on Einsteindreef was raided on Saturday morning by three masked and armed men. They reached into the cash register; the amount stolen has not been disclosed. The same station was robbed twice in quick succession in 2023.
Brandishing machete
In Friesland, a petrol station robber was just convicted. He was one of two men who tried to get easy money at an Argos location. Both were adorned with a balaclava and the 20-year-old man convicted in the case threatened with a machete to pressure the employee while the other man emptied the till, Omrop Fryslân writes.
The two looted 370 euros and cigarettes, but were also arrested the same evening. The 20-year-old man was also found to have used the same machete in a street robbery. Because he is mildly mentally handicapped and thus somewhat diminished, his sentence was somewhat lower: 300 days in prison, of which just over half unconditionally, and 80 hours of community service. The man is currently receiving therapy and living under supervision.
