Soesterberg likely to get a petrol station added

The plans have yet to be approved and no completion date is yet known, but all indications are that a new filling station will be built sometime in the next few years in Soesterberg, a village in the province of Utrecht. The refuelling location is to come on a site that has been lying fallow since a fire.
The plot in question was once home to a residential area that was exchanged for a business park sometime in the 1980s. In the summer of 2021, a fire broke out there, destroying much of the premises present. The site was then prepared for new developments, local news website Soesterberg.nu reported. For a long time, it was unclear what was going to happen.
So it now looks like that new development will be a petrol station by Fieten Olie, which already operates a petrol site in the centre of the village. Whether the plans at hand can be implemented will have to be seen sometime in the coming months. In it, the municipality is considering the permit application. It will consider safety, traffic and environmental requirements, among other things.
Opinions divided
Meanwhile, the local news medium reports that opinions on a possible new petrol station are divided. While some consider it unnecessary because refuelling is already possible in the village, others are concerned about safety and traffic congestion. There are also residents who think a new petrol station is just right for the activity in the area.
