H2 Mobility closes 22 hydrogen refuelling stations in Germany

In an effort to better align its own network of hydrogen filling stations with market needs and opportunities, H2 Mobility is closing a total of 22 locations in Germany. This shifts the focus from passenger cars to larger vehicles.
The German company is closing 11 filling stations in the short term, with many more to follow in the summer. H2 Mobility says it is responding to the change in the market. The stations being removed from the network are, for the most part, relatively older and primarily aimed at hydrogen-powered passenger cars. However, that market is not booming and the filling stations no longer meet today’s economic and technical requirements, Mobility Plaza and others report.
“Our strategic focus is on expanding hydrogen infrastructure where demand is highest, especially for commercial transport. Some of the older stations, which were built more than a decade ago, no longer meet today’s operational needs,” a company board member said about this.
Regional hubs
With the shift in focus from passenger cars to commercial vehicles, there is also a greater need for hydrogen refuelling stations that can accommodate larger vehicles and store more hydrogen. H2 Mobility is betting on larger regional hubs where 350 as well as 500 and 700 bar hydrogen can be refuelled. In the next six months alone, at least two such locations will be added in Düsseldorf and Ludwigshaven.
