Tango and Bakker Bart transform petrol stations into meeting places

Tango and Bakker Bart present a new petrol station concept, with the first revamped station in Deventer. This station offers fresh sandwiches, coffee and space to work or relax, as well as an extra emphasis on electric charging facilities. With this, the companies aim to capitalise on the trend of traditional petrol stations turning into modern meeting places.
Initially, the new stations will not open along motorways, but in local areas. In this way, Tango and Bakker Bart not only want to serve travellers, but also create a meeting place for the neighbourhood. A November 2024 survey of 1,000 Dutch people, conducted on behalf of Q8 (of which Tango is part), showed that 62 per cent expect petrol and charging stations to increasingly turn into retail and meeting locations over the next 10 years. Almost 30 per cent of those surveyed are more likely to stop at a refuelling or charging station if there is quality coffee. Over 20 per cent do so for healthy food options and another 20 per cent for a cosy dining area. The latter in particular plays an important role in their new concept, according to Tango and Bakker Bart. The ambition is to fully transform 10 locations within two years, with further expansion in the future.
Convenience and experience
Michael Romijn, Shop Performance Manager at Tango, says he is happy with the new cooperation with Bakker Bart. “We are preparing for the future with this new concept, in which electric charging and a quality dining experience are central. Our ambition is to future-proof our Tango locations so that everyone – whether you drive electric, fill up with petrol or are on the road – can come to us for convenience, quality and a pleasant stopover. That we can achieve this together with Bakker Bart makes me immensely proud.”
