TotalEnergies and Edmij join forces to power 20,000 charging stations

TotalEnergies and Edmij, energy and data specialist, are working together to supply power to 20,000 TotalEnergies charging points. Thanks to artificial intelligence (AI), these charge points will be powered more efficiently. This helps prevent grid congestion and optimise energy costs.
Edmij deploys AI to make accurate predictions by accurately measuring historical data, weather forecasts and other relevant factors. “Thanks to AI, we estimate exactly how much power is needed and where peak moments are,” says Jeffrey Bartels, owner of Edmij. “This is how we ensure lower imbalance costs. In doing so, we try not to burden the power grid unnecessarily through congestion management.”
Dynamic tariffs
The cooperation allows TotalEnergies to offer dynamic tariffs. In addition, the company plans to place batteries at charging stations. This will happen for the first time at a pilot in Haarlem. Stefan Evers, managing director of TotalEnergies Charging Solutions Netherlands: “By adjusting the charging rate based on signals from the grid operator, we prevent congestion in the electricity grid. So we can still supply more power to electric vehicles. The pilot in Haarlem is the beginning; we want to expand this concept to other cities.”
