European charging players unite in Spark Alliance

European fast charging companies Atlante, Electra, Fastned and IONITY have joined forces to form Spark Alliance. The partnership aims to simplify electric vehicle charging and accelerate the transition to electric driving.
Four leading European fast charging companies for EVs have formed a partnership under the name Spark Alliance. Together, they aim to form Europe’s largest and most reliable EV charging network. The CEOs of Atlante, Electra, Fastned and IONITY — all major European pure-player companies focused on EV charging — confirmed the industry’s first such collaboration on 2 April 2025 at the Cercle de l’Union InteralliĆ©e in Paris.
The aim of the Spark Alliance is to create a single seamless charging network that simplifies the experience and makes travelling and charging EVs easier than ever. In doing so, it aims to address key challenges facing EV drivers today because finding the best public chargers in the maze of different providers, apps and pricing structures can be overwhelming. Often, even to successfully complete a charging session, they need to download a new app or introduce a new payment method.
Unified network
The Spark Alliance solves this problem. EV drivers will soon be able to access, charge and pay at any of the more than 1,700 Spark Alliance stations, with transparent pricing – regardless of the make or model of their EV. For this, they can simply use their favourite fast-charging company’s app, without having to download a new one.
Drivers can go to a charging station of one of the parties and use the apps of the other members to start and pay for their charging session. This applies to all four companies, creating a uniform, open network for all EV drivers. To help EV drivers find the most reliable station nearby while on the road, Spark Alliance members will not only show their own stations in their app’s route planners, but also those of other members. In total, EV drivers will thus have access to a total of 11,000 charging stations in 25 European countries, all providing 100% renewable energy.
