Fastned opens first fast-charging station in partnership with Decathlon

Fastned opened a fast-charging station at the Decathlon site in Kortrijk, Belgium, last week. It is the first of a series of stations the company is building in cooperation with the international sports chain.
The fast-charging station in Kortrijk is located in Decathlon’s car park at Beneluxlaan 1, on the N50 just outside Kortrijk, close to the E17 towards Ghent and the E403 between Bruges and Tournai. The fast-charging station has six charging slots with a maximum capacity of 200 kW. The typical drive-through station is accessible 24/7.
The cooperation stems from the two companies’ desire to help accelerate the transition to electric mobility, and for this, sufficient charging infrastructure at A-locations is crucial. Later this year, Fastned will open another station in the car park of Decathlon Wavre. Both parties intend to expand the cooperation to several Decathlon Belgium sites.
As green as possible
“The cooperation with Decathlon is a milestone for us,” said Laurence De Bisschop, Lead Network Expansion of Fastned Belgium on the occasion of the opening. “Decathlon is a dreamed-of strategic partner in our ambition to help realise the green transition. The shops are in interesting locations, close to motorways and often near busy traffic axes. They also have spacious car parks that allow the development of quality charging stations. Moreover, we share the same values and ideas about sustainable mobility.”
Positive noises were also heard at Decathlon. “As a leading international sports brand, we hold people’s physical health in high regard,” echoed Stefan Schins, responsible development of Decathlon in Belgium and Luxembourg. “It is therefore important that customers and employees can easily reach our shops on foot and by bike. For locations where this is more difficult, we want journeys by car to be as green as possible. This is why our ambition is to help support electric driving.”
