Many electric cars in Utrecht and Flevoland, Limburg lags behind

In the province of Utrecht, there are proportionally twice as many fully electric cars as in Limburg. The number of plug-in cars is also relatively high in Flevoland. This is according to figures compiled by CBS on behalf of the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO), and analysed by ANP.
At the beginning of last year, there were 443,000 fully electric cars and 260,000 hybrids. These cars run partly electric and partly on petrol, for example. In total, there are more than 9 million cars driving in our country. Of these, 5 per cent are fully electric.
Proportionally, Utrecht has the most fully electric cars: 65 per thousand cars. This is followed by Flevoland with 62 cars per thousand cars. Limburg, Groningen and Friesland have the lowest proportionally.
New method of research
CBS has for the first time surveyed the number of electric cars in a new way. Previously, the figures per province were not easy to compare. This is because many electric cars are company or rental cars, and these are often registered at the address of the leasing company or head office and not with the person driving the car. This is why CBS linked a variety of data sources in this study. This is how the location of the end user, or where the car is actually parked, was found out.
Earlier this week, the RVO reported that a third of electric drivers are considering switching to a fuel car next year once tax breaks are phased out. In 2030, these tax breaks will stop altogether. By then, 60 per cent would no longer want to drive electric, according to that survey.
